Important!!
Auditions will be held at Bonnie Brae Church on May 31st, 2008. Please contact us if you need to make other arrangements.
Audition Policy- Unlike other theatre camps, your child does not have to audition in order to get accepted in the Catchpenny Kids program. Upon registration, you reserve a spot and the directors will cast from auditions. In other words, every student gets a role, no matter what!
Audition Philosophy- During auditions at Catchpenny, we create a comfortable, nurturing environment for your child to illustrate his/her best talents. Much like a professional audition, we interview your child independently so that our experienced staff can thoroughly gauge the best role suited for your child’s skills. Each audition lasts approximately 7-10 minutes and covers acting, dancing, and singing. We at Catchpenny believe in maximizing your child’s growth by carefully placing them in each role. We put extra effort into ensuring your child more stage time!
Audition Preparation- Please arrange for your child to have two to three choices of characters that they’d like to audition for. Although a memorized audition is not necessary, we do encourage each pupil to read through the lines of their chosen characters to gain a better grasp of the role. Remember, the better prepared your child is for the audition, the more accurately our staff can cast them.
Musical Audition Preparation- Any child who is auditioning for a musical role should prepare a 1-2 minute music selection. Opt for a song that demonstrates your child’s vocal range, projection (volume), and character voice. If your youngster has no prior singing experience, choose a song that suits his/her primary character choice. Experience isn’t required! Our Musical Director will conduct some simple exercises that will help determine your student’s capabilities.
Dance Audition Preparation- As with the musical audition, any student auditioning for a musical should bring in a prepared dance piece with music. We provide a CD/cassette player for your convenience. If your child has no dance experience, don’t worry. Please ensure that they are dressed for movement. Your youngster must be able to move freely, as our Dancing Director assists them through some movements.
Audition Details- Auditions are scheduled on June 2nd, before the first day of camp. This way we can spend more time on rehearsals and instruction instead of the auditioning process. If your child falls under any special circumstances and cannot be present at auditions, please mail a videotape, or DVD of your child to the following address:
